Health and Wellness
Artists: Multiple
Location: Brunswick Recreation Department, Brunswick Landing
Installation Dates: December 2014 and April 2016
In Phase One of this project, a group of three Brunswick high school students painted a mural on the front of the concession stand. The mural was funded by the Brunswick Recreation Department and BPA.
Hand-painted canvas panels were installed on the gymnasium walls in Phases I and II. The panels measure 22" x 28" and share a sports or healthy-food theme. The first murals were painted by Brunswick Middle School students, Art Van, SMART (a Bowdoin mentoring program), and St. John's Catholic School. Phase I was coordinated by Mariah Reading, Bowdoin College (2016). Phase II murals were painted by students from Brunswick's Harriet Beecher Stowe School (grades 3 - 5) and coordinated by Amy Crosby. For a slide show with more photographs of Phase I, see the News page.

"Art with Ms. Crosby" Goes Outside
Art by kindergartners and 1st and 2nd graders at Coffin Elementary School moved outside in 2015, transforming the playground fence into a colorful and joyful gallery. The project was headed by Brunswick elementary school art teacher Amy Crosby and funded by BPA's small-project fund. Students created the 48 works of art in class, and Carrot Signs reproduced them on weather-proof panels. An additional 60 student paintings were installed in 2016. They lined both sides of the path leading to Ms. Crosby's modular classroom. Financial support came from the Coffin School Parents Fund. For more photographs of other student work, visit Art with Ms. Crosby.

Haven
Artist: Miles Chapin
Location: Brunswick Station
Installation Date: June 2015
The sculpture stands in a deserving location for such a significant work of art, at the entrance to the town's transportation center, a busy hub of downtown activity. The sculpture's siting and size both send a clear message to town residents and visitors alike that Brunswick is a community that values art. It is carved from a single block of American Black granite, and when combined with its Barre Grey granite base, stands seven-feet high and weighs over 11,000 pounds. Click here for a video of the installation and the unveiling ceremony that celebrated this amazing gift to Brunswick.
