ABOUT BPA
Mission
To inspire and promote quality public art that captures the spirit, values, and visions of our diverse community.
History
BPA was established in 2010 with the goal of enlivening public spaces by placing quality art in locations where our citizens and visitors live, work and play. Our projects comment on our beautiful natural landscape, dedication to healthy living, community vitality, sustainability, the importance of arts education for our children, and the history of our region. With a goal of strengthening our local community, they are all designed and planned with broad community involvement, through collaborations with many individuals and organizations. A wide variety of individuals and groups have participated in our work to date, including many students from our public and parochial schools, Bowdoin College, and Southern Maine Community College. Project funding sources have included local businesses, banks, private individuals, and foundation grants. We are an all-volunteer, public-purpose Maine nonprofit, with a federal 501(c)(3) charitable designation. Over 95% of the funds we raise go directly into projects.
